The Telecommunications Technician – Senior is an experienced technician with a broad range of knowledge in installing telecommunications systems and is responsible for running the day to day activities on large scale telecommunications installation projects. This position is required to assist the PM with daily running of the project including interfacing with the customer, managing daily activities of the installation crew, ensuring project deliverables are met, creating and submitting project reports, conducting daily safety briefs and training, and managing the installation crew personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Telecommunications Technician – Senior needs to have technical expertise and experience in all aspects of structured cabling installation including:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints
- Project schedules
- Test results
- Copper cable installation and terminating (voice, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a)
- Fiber cable installation
- Fiber splicing and terminating
- Testing of all structured cabling systems
The ideal candidate needs to have experience in support work required for cabling installation including installing cabinets and racks, pathways (conduit, cable tray, etc.), grounding and bonding, and firestopping. This position is required to be experienced with a wide range of test equipment and other installation tools. Additionally, the senior technician must be able to direct and train other crew members in the technical areas of the installations and work alongside the installation crew during the project implementation. Must have good computer skills and be able to use MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, and other web based applications.
The Telecommunications Technician – Senior will also be required to work with the project manager to organize and prepare for new projects as well as prepare close out documentation for existing projects. The Telecommunications Technician – Senior must be a solid communicator and be able to work with and manage teams of people to accomplish the project requirements.
Minimum 10 years in the telecommunications industry with demonstrated project management and leadership experience. Must have a wide array of experience with telecommunications structured cabling and network infrastructure. Military service and experience working on military installations is a plus.
High School Diploma (or equivalent) with relevant experience and industry training. Manufacturer’s certification for structured cabling installation and testing is a plus. BICSI Technician or RCDD certification is highly desired.
US citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance. Active DOD clearance (or equivalent) desired. Must have valid driver’s license with clean record and the ability to pass a drug screening.
